The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is the only movie opening nationwide this weekend. It’s opening on 3,929 screens so Disney and Walden are looking for a big box office take I’m sure. It should be an interesting race for the number one spot this weekend. Will Iron Man remain on top? It’s hard to tell, especially since Iron Man is expanding again this week to a total of 4,154 as it adds 43 more screens from last weekend!
But, for those of you who may not be into comic book heroes or talking animals, here’s a review of Made of Honor.
When I saw this movie it was a toss up between Made of Honor or What Happens in Vegas. I opted for Patrick Dempsey instead of Ashton Kutcher. For the most part, Kutcher is a one dimensional actor who’s trying to become the new Will Ferrell of Hollywood who can nothing but rude and crude. I skipped Vegas and headed for Made of Honor.
Right off the bat, I need to say I was pleasantly surprised that this movie is not a full-blown chick-flick. If anything, it’s a guy movie looking into the reality that many guys don’t recognize what’s right in front of them when it comes to love.
Patrick Dempsey of Enchanted and Freedom Writers fame plays Tom Bailey who’s a millionaire, has a different lady every night, but is still lonely. He’s created a world of rules which pretty much protect him from making any kind of committment. On the surface, it looks like he has it all and it looks like he’s the happiest guy in the world. But on the inside, he’s lonely and only finds happiness when hanging out with Hannah, his delightful best friend and the one constant in his life. This all seems wonderful and the perfect life for Tom until Hannah goes overseas to Scotland on a six week business trip. Then when she returns with a fiance, and tells Tom she’s moving overseas to get married, he finds his life falling apart. Making maters even worse, Hannah asks her best friend, Tom, to be her Made of Honor!
This is a fun movie. There are some tender lady moments, and there are also some great guy moments too. It’s a movie about recognizing what’s right in front of our face, and it’s also about recognizing what true love really is. Best of all, it’s great to see Hollywood putting a positive spin on marriage! Too often Hollywood laughs at married life, but this movie actually shows the importance of marriage and the benefits of marriage.
Made of Honor carries a rating of PG-13, but I’m going to say this is not a family-friendly movie. In the end, Made of Honor falls into the category of a movie needing a mature rating. This is a great date movie for people say ages 17 and up. Reality is, anyone younger than 17 or 18 will miss much of the humor
However, even though I’m saying Made of Honor is not family-friendly, it’s still a good movie falling into the category of a romantic comedy. I’m giving it a 3 Lloyd rating.
Enjoy the show!
