Indiana Jones Is Back

Harrison Ford is back in…
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – PG 13
4 Lloyds - Cautionary Family-Friendly

It’s Memorial Day Weekend and that means it’s always time for some great epic flick to hit the big screen. This year is no different with Harrison Ford teaming up with his good friends George Lucas and Steven Spielberg to present another Indiana Jonesmovie. This time around it’s 1957, during the height of the Cold War. Indy and his sidekick friend Mac barely escape a close scrape with Soviet agents on a remote airfield in a Southwest desert. But, when Professor Jones returns home to Marshall College, he discovers things have gone from bad to worse. He loses his job, and then suddenly finds himself in the midst of looking for one of the most spectacular archeological finds in history – the Crystal Skull of Akator.

If you’ve been disappointed with some of Harrison Ford’s recent movies, like Firewall, you will not be disappointed with this latest installment of Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford seems quite at home with this character, and he looks like he’s having a lot of fun along the way too. At the age of 65 many wondered if Ford could pull his Indy character off again. Well, he does, and he does so very well.

True to form from previous Indiana Jones movies, The Kingdom of the Crystal Skullcombines adventure, treasure hunting clues, and humor throughout the entire 2 hours. There’s not a dull moment in this flick! Even Shia LaBeouf shines here. I wondered how he would do. In past movies he’s come off rather hyper and very childish. But, working with Harrison Ford, obviously rubbed off on LeBeouf as he seems much more controlled and calm. Even in the midst of what are some rather hectic scenes, LeBeouf seems to be coming of age and doesn’t come off as an over-active teen trying to hit his marks and lines.

Overall this latest installment of Indiana Jones does not disappoint at any juncture. If you’re already an Indiana Jones fan, you will not be disappointed with what you see. The genre, look and feel is maintained well here. If you’re new to Indiana Jones, you just might turn into a big fan. The attention to detail is wonderful, right down to some quick glimpses of the Ark from an earlier movie.

As far as the rating goes, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull carries a PG-13 rating. While this Indy film is no more shocking than the previous ones, we find ourselves having to say this is a cautionary family-friendly movie. While it’s full of treasure hunting and adventure, there are some scenes that simply push the edge of the envelope a little too far. Don’t simply send your kids to see this movie by themselves. After all, we like to encourage people to view movies as a family.

It’s been close to 20 years since the last Indiana Jones movie so this is a great opportunity to introduce your kids to something you loved as a kid! Parents, if you’re looking for a great night of adventure, head to the movies, but be ready to help your kids through some of the more startling elements of the flick if need be.

Even after saying that, we must admit we did indeed enjoy the movie. It has the classic Harrison Ford Indiana Jones feel to it, along with some great Lucas/Spielberg surprises as far as plot line goes.

Enjoy the show!
