The Dark Knight

It’s one of the most anticipated movies of the summer — The Dark Knight — the cast of the new Batman movie was in the real-life Gotham City last night for the premiere of the new flick. The star who was on everyone’s mind at the New York premiere was the late Heath Ledger. Shortly after Ledger’s death I received an email from Michael Uslan, the executive producer for the Batman movies, saying this is the best performance Ledger has ever put in. It’s pretty much unanimous, everyone connected with the movie are saying Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker is incredible. Even though Ledger was absent from the premiere, his father and stepmother did travel from Australia for last night’s event. Christian Bale, who returns as the Caped Crusader, described Ledger as “great company,” while Maggie Gyllenhaal said she felt inspired by Ledger’s performance.

Personally, this is probably the movie I’ve been looking forward to the most. I’ve always been a Batman fan and I’ve watched the ebb and flow of this franchise since the days of Adam West. While the movies turned very cartoonish at one point, starting with Batman Begins in 2006, the filmmakers decided to go for quality, instead of campy. My screening is set for tomorrow night in an IMAX theater, which means you can stay tuned to this blog for a teaser review on Thursday.

Enjoy the show!
