Iron Man 2 Will Have Different Faces
A couple weeks ago I blogged about a casting change for the upcoming Iron Man 2 movie. In an entry entitled A Stunned Terrence Howard, I pointed out a couple things when it comes to face changes like this. First off, I wrote about the fact that Howard was very stunned to learn he would not return to the box office smash sequel. Secondly, I also pointed out when filmmakers make such changes, movie-goers really don’t like it. I concluded by saying all we can hope is that the character of Rhodey in the second movie will go the way of Rachel in The Dark Knight.
According to some entertainment sources, Howard, who starred as James “Rhodey” Rhodes in the first Iron Man was dumped from the sequel because of financial differences. How true is that story? It’s really hard to tell. According to Howard, he was “completely blindsided by the news.”
Now, in what seems to be the story that keeps on giving, there’s even more news coming from the cast of Iron Man 2.
Robert Downey Jr. Says He Had Nothing To Do With Casting Change
Even though he’s the star of the movie, Robert Downey Jr. said he does not have super powers when it comes to casting. As questions still swirl around the decision to cut Terrence Howard lose, Downey Jr. said he had no input into the decision to replace Howard with Don Cheadle in the sequel to the summer blockbuster Iron Man.
Downey said;
“I had nothing to do with that decision. I love Terrence very very much. That’s all I’ll say because I haven’t talked to him yet.”
Downey also steered clear of making any remarks that could turn the matter into an even bigger controversy as he went on to say;
“It’s one of those situations where I still don’t quite know what happened or why. Here’s what happens, too: things happen and you wind up commenting on them before you’ve actually talked to the people and it’s in poor taste.”
So, what exactly happened? We still don’t know. But we do know this, Iron Man 2 is scheduled for a May 2010 release. At this point Downey, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, are expected to reprise their roles. Jon Favreau, who directed the original movie, is also slated to be back for the sequel as well.
Enjoy the show!
