Roddenberry’s To Join Scotty In Space

He wrote about it for years, and now space will be the final frontier for Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and his recently deceased widow, Majel Barrett Roddenberry. According to a spokesperson from Celestis Incorporated, a company that provides memorial spaceflights, they will launch the couple’s ashes into space sometime next year. Their remains will be sealed inside special capsules, and the spacecraft carrying the capsules will not return to earth.

But wait…there’s more!

Fans can get involved too!

Record A Special Star Trek Tribute

Star Trek fans have an opportunity to provide tributes to the couple on the Celestis website. Fans can visit the website, leave a tribute message for the couple, and all the messages will accompany the Roddenberry’s remains on the spacecraft in digital form. Celestis is the same company that launched some of Gene Roddenberry’s ashes into space in 1997. Now the rest of his remains, along with his wife’s remains, will last forever somewhere in outer space. Maybe heading for the planet Vulcan.

Originally many thought all of Roddenberry’s remains went into space in 1991. But now Celestis says it was always Majel’s wish to have her ashes and her husband’s ashes sent into space together. (Hmmm, does this mean she sent some of Gene ahead of her to scout out a new planet to live on?) Whatever the case may be, the woman dubbed The First Lady of Star Trek died on December 18, 2008 at the age of 76. Her husband Gene died in 1991.

May they float in peace,
