Liv and Emma are best friends. They actually bring the acronym BFF to a new level as they’ve been best friends since childhood. Not only have they been best friends since childhood, but they’ve also planned every detail of their respective weddings. At the top of their bridal “must have” list – A ceremony at New York’s ultimate bridal destination, the Plaza Hotel.

At the age of 26 they’re both getting married, and they’re about to realize their dreams and hopefully live happy ever after.

Or…maybe not…

A clerical error causes a collision of wedding dates. Instead of taking part in one another’s wedding, they suddenly find themselves at odds with one another as they have the same wedding date. Liv and Emma are about to discover their life long friendship put the test. Now, these two best friends who would do anything for one another, find themselves in a no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners struggle which threatens to erupt into all-out-war.

When walking out of the theater I told my wife Bride Wars is a chick-flick, cutesy, date night, father and daughter movie. That pretty much describes the wide arching audience appeal this movie may have. There are enough laughs in here to make everyone chuckle from time to time. While there’s nothing glaringly raunchy and rude in Bride Wars there are a few scenes which push the edge of the envelope, and in turn push it out of the family-friendly arena with a PG rating. If it had a PG-13 rating, we would call Bride Wars family-friendly. But alas, once again the MPAA missed it by one rating.

From an acting standpoint, both Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway are turning into great actresses. Kate Hudson is not only starting to look like her mother, but she’s also proving she has the same acting chops as Goldie Hawn too. Then there’s Candice Bergen. While it’s a little like watching her Murphy Brown character, Bergen makes a great narrator in Bride Wars. Through most of the movie it’s her character telling the story of these two brides, and the bumps the encounter along the way.

All in all, this is pretty much just a fun movie. While there are some great lessons about friendship, Bride Wars is not meant to be a deep thinking movie. It’s simply a flick about entertainment value, and it fills the role well. So if you’re looking for a fun movie to kill some time to, and enjoy some popcorn along the way as well, Bride Wars could just be the movie for you.

Enjoy the show!
