Something you have to remember is that, even though J.J. Abram is a fan of Star Wars, he still has a job to do. I think if anyone turned down the opportunity to work on something as big as Star Trek they'd be throwing away their career saying they don't want the biggest opportunity that they could ever receive. That's a professional standpoint.

However, I do have to agree that there may have been too much of a variety of aliens for the time period. I just chose to let that go because it was a minor issue to me.

I only had one really big issue against the movie. The music arranged by Michael Giacchino was absolutely amazing. I listen to it everywhere. I hear the music and can see what's happening. However, as much as I love it, I'm having trouble forgiving M.G. for a critical point in the movie that received ZERO musical recognition. As Kirk quickly grows to accept the challenge of Starfleet, the music grows with him. When the cadets anxiously prepare for their placement in the fleet of starships, the music drives it. When you first see the Enterprise, the music screams with excitement. When Kirk first takes the Captain's chair to command the Enterprise..... well...... NOTHING!!!! My heart drops every time. But again, I let it go to enjoy the rest of the movie.

I personally thought the movie was phenomenal. I've now seen it 5 times and don't plan on stopping.

I do agree with the borderline family friendly rating. I had to take my wife the second time I saw it to help me determine wether or not to take our five year old would was just dying to see the movie that's had Daddy so excited since it was announced. We finally determined that there was a low enough occurances as well as attention brought to profanity and that the anticipated love scene the previews showed was really nothing more than you see on the beach on a family vacation. The only thing that left us any concern was a scene used to torture Captain Pike. Luckily our child is mature enough to determine for himself when he shouldn't watch. He closed his own eyes and asked me to let him know when it was over.

Now he wants to watch the other ten Star Trek movies. I just have to determine where they fall.

Yeah I liked this movie. I enjoyed the plot of making the series a new timeline that is different from the original series so that they can make it up as they go from here on out. The fact that the Romulans (I hate the way they dressed them by the way, Thoughts on Eric Banna?) and Spock came back in time and altered the timeline makes this a whole new star trek.

I totally agree on Bones. That was my favorite character. Spock was number 2.

I'd like to see this again just to really scrutinize it.

As for J.J. Abrams I think you're being a little tough on him. Yeah the movie felt like a Lost episode but I think it faired well. You forget that JJ also did Mission Impossible 3 which I thought was a great movie. Cloverfield was also done well I thought. Shaky cam gave that movie a unique feel for an obviously cheesy monster movie.
