The 62nd Cannes Film Festival in France opened this week with the new Disney-Pixar 3D flick UP.

UP explores the life of a 78 year old balloon salesman named Carl Fredricksen, played by Ed Asner. Fredrickson spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. But, at the age of 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a twist of fate gives him a new lease on life.

The movie went over extremely well with the Cannes audience. According to executive producer John Lasseter, “We got a standing ovation, it was so exciting. We still can’t believe it.” UP is also the first animated film ever to open the Cannes Festival. The 3D flick hits U.S. theaters on May 29.

Personally, I’m looking forward to the movie UP. No one does animation better than Pixar and when you team them up with Disney, it’s usually a winning combination. Of course it also doesn’t hurt that the movie was directed by the Academy-Award nominated team of Pete Docter and Bob Peterson who also brought us the great animated flick Monsters, Inc.

Enjoy the show!
