Hurray For Hollywood!

framebyframe_hollywood_sign

It’s time to clear my desk of some random Hollywood news stories I’ve stacked up over the past couple weeks. Each day I receive short news stories from various sources. While the stories are important, many times they’re very short. As a result, they’re just not long enough for a full blog post.

But, I have a number of them stacked up here, so it’s time for another edition of what I call Hurray for Hollywood!

In this edition…

  • Depp Names Beach After Ledger
  • Denzel talks about Travolta
  • Disney Picks Up Hannah & HSM IV

Johnny Depp Names Beach After Heath Ledger

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Johnny Depp says he’s named a beach on the Caribbean island he owns after Heath Ledger. The beach, which is on Little Hall’s Pond Clay, is currently known as Heath’s Place. Depp is one of the actors who took over Ledger’s role in the movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, the film Ledger was shooting at the time of his death last year.

The Vanity Fair interview with Depp is scheduled to hit the newsstand in July.

Denzel Washington Says John Travolta Still Struggling

Denzel Washington says John Travolta, his co-star in the upcoming film The Taking of Pelhem 1 2 3, is still struggling with the death of his son, Jett. At a recent press conference to promote the movie, Washington said the healing process is “going to take time.” He said he spoke with Travolta last month, adding “more than talking to him, I listened to him, for about two or three hours.” Washington also said, “What can you say? Just be there as a friend because he’s such a sweet, sweet person.”

Jett Travolta died at the age of 16 in the Bahamas in January after suffering a seizure. The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, a remake of the 1974 film that starred Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw, opens on June 12.

Disney Picks Up Hannah Montana & Confirms HSM IV

Miley Cyrus is not planning to ditch her blond wig anytime soon. The Disney Channel announced this week that it’s renewed her series Hannah Montana for a fourth season. According to the studio, production on the new season will start early next year. Hannah Montana has averaged 4.4 million viewers per episode during its run date. The fourth season will focus on Miley and her family’s move from their current home in Malibu.

Meanwhile, the Disney Channel also announced that choreographer and Shout director Jeffrey Hornaday will helm the fourth installment of the High School Musical franchise. The new movie is currently entitled High School Musical East Meets West. The story will center around the rivalry between the East High Wildcats and the West High Knights. This time around, instead of hitting the big screen like HSM3, the latest installment will head back to the little screen, airing on the Disney Channel next year. The movie will also feature a brand-new cast, since the former cast all graduated.
