Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
In Theaters on June 24, 2009

There’s been much hype around the upcoming Transformers sequel due for release later this month. As a quick recap, when filming Revenge of the Fallen, the star of the show, Shia LaBeouf, was involved in a car accident. His hand injury was so severe that he’s still undergoing surgery trying to repair the damage. Scriptwriters had to write his injury into the script of the sequel, and the young star even received a call from Harrison Ford telling him while he was concerned, it’s time to go back to work.

The trailers for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen have hit theaters in a big way during the past couple weeks as well. It certainly looks like one wild special effects ride. Of course the first Transformers was a rather wild ride of special effects too. While I did enjoy the 2007 flick, I hope the sequel has a little  more substance to it.

What’s Hollywood hoping for with this sequel?

Industry analysts are predicting it will demolish the box office!

Bigger Than The Dark Knight?

In July of last year The Dark Knight debuted with a box office opening weekend take of close to $159 million. That figure equated to almost 30% of the box office take for the weekend of July 18, 2008. But now early predictions for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, puts the sequel to the 2007 relaunch of the franchise topping The Dark Knight record!

The relaunch of Transformers with Shia LeBeouf opened on Thursday, July 3, 2007 and pulled in $98.7 million over the 4 day Fourth of July holiday weekend. HitFix says Revenge of the Fallen is on track to challenge The Dark Knight’s 5-day record of $203 million last summer.

We’ll find out soon if the predictors are right.

LaBeouf Signs Another Movie Contract Deal

In the meantime, Shia LaBeouf is an in-demand actor these days. Not only is Transformers 3 scheduled for a release date of July 1, 2011, but he’s signed to star in yet another movie! There’s no release date set yet, but LaBeouf has just signed on to star in the latest John Grisham novel to film adaptation of The Associate. There was no decision made by a casting director. Grisham apparently handpicked the Transformers actor himself.

I wonder how that phone call sounded. Did Grisham call LaBeouf himself and say – “Hey, I’d like you to star in my new movie.” – While we don’t know if that happened, we do know this – Grisham said “I think he’ll be wonderful! He’s a very talented actor and he’s hot. He’s the hottest 22 year old actor in America, and I think he’ll do a wonderful job.”

Wow! That’s pretty high praise from the famous author. Time will tell if LaBeouf will live up to the hype. In the past LaBeouf has suffered from hyper-activity. His acting style was high-strung and it was pretty much nothing more than running, screaming, and sweating. But, his work with Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones seemed to calm him down some. Hopefully LaBeouf has remembered those lessons and will put them to good use in his upcoming movies.

Enjoy the show!
