A New Week, But An Old #1

It was an oddity for the number spot at the box office this weekend. For the first time in a number of weeks, it’s a familiar face at the top of the box office again.

Ed Asner’s Carl character is still number one!

That’s right, the box office competition was unable to deflate the animated Up this past weekend. The Disney-Pixar movie pulled in another $44 million to maintain its number one ranking. It’s now earned more than $137 million in just ten days.

The new bachelor party flick The Hangover came in a close second with $43.3 million in ticket sales. Meanwhile, Will Ferrell’s new twist on the 1970’s children’s TV series Land of the Lost struggled to a distant third in the top 10 just falling short of the $20 million mark. The weekend’s other new release, My Life in Ruins starring My Big Fat Greek Wedding actress Nia Vardalos as a Greek tour guide, scratched and clawed its way to a dismal 9th place finish with just $3.2 million.
