060909: Updated Weekend Box Office

Official Take Gives #1 Spot A Hangover

Warner Bros. Hangover Moves To Top Stop

Preliminary weekend box office estimates ranked Disney-Pixar’s animated flick Up at the number one spot in the country. Early estimates gave it a very slim lead over The Hangover which debuted in the number two spot. But, when the official numbers were submitted by both Warner Bros. and Disney, the two movies swapped position.

It is very rare for the number one and number two movies to switch positions between Sunday estimates and Monday finals. But, The Hangover and Up switched positions all weekend long. By the time the official numbers were released yesterday, The Hangover grossed more money on Sunday than originally expected.

The official Box Office report shows The Hangover narrowly beating Up with almost $45 million in ticket sales. Up came in just slightly more than $44 million.

The Hangover tells the story of three guys who take their soon-to-be-married friend to Las Vegas to party before he ties the knot. The groom is played by Justin Bartha. Zach Galifiankis plays the bride’s brother.
