Yesterday I wrote a story about Movies We Don’t Need To See.

Today, lets look at some movies that have promise, as well as a couple remakes in the making, but should be left alone. I’m not sure why Hollywood is releasing all these stories about upcoming movies. Maybe it’s because there’s really not a lot going on with the big screen these days. Before anyone says there have been some good movies over the past few weeks, reality is new film releases are down this year. But, even though film releases are down, the box office is up. While some might think this odd, it’s actually quite normal. When the economy is hurting, many people go to movies as a way to escape what’s going on around them for a couple hours.

As for plans for future movies, some of what’s on the horizon actually have the potential for being pretty good.

Kid Movie News

Winnie the Pooh Movie
News from the Magic Kingdom says Disney is planning a new hand-drawn animated Winnie the Pooh feature movie for the big screen in the spring of 2011.

In other Disney kid-friendly-movie-news, they’re also working on some theatrical re-releases too. In the movie release queue – Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3D for this October. Of course those are set up for a tease of next summer’s Toy Story 3 release. Also coming in October from Disney for the home entertainment world, a Blu-ray release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Where’s Waldo On The Big Screen
In a world where Hollywood keeps turning to literature for the best movies, it was just a matter of time for this one to hit the big screen. Where’s Waldo is slated to come to the movies!

The classic children’s book series is in the queue as a live-action movie by Universal Pictures. The flick was originally on slate for Paramount Pictures and Nickelodean. As for a plot, the story might follow Waldo traveling through time in a malfunctioning time machine.

Comic Book Heroes and Big People Flicks

Spider-Man 4 News
Web-swinging fans can rest easy. Word is Mary Jane will be by the side of Spider-Man for the upcoming flick. Movie producer Todd Black recently said Kirsten Dunst will reprise her role of Peter Parker/Spidey’s love interest in the sequel which is slated to hit movie theaters in 2011. However, even though Black says she’ll be back, Dunst has yet to confirm her involvement in the movie. Whatever the case may be, Black is denying speculation that Peter and Mary Jane will get married in the movie.

In other Spidey news – Black did drop another little tidbit of information about Spider-Man 4. He says the villain will not be Morbius the Vampire as has been rumored. He went on to say people will appreciate the villain though because it will be a big part of New York.

Alien Prequel Underway
With the success of Star Trek, Terminator and somewhat box office success of Wolverine, sci-fi geeks are coming out of the closet to jump on the bandwagon. Of course it’s all in the hopes of cashing in on the popularity of relaunching mania.

News out of Hollywood says plans are in the making for a prequel to Alien, which would make it the fifth film in the franchise. Of course since it’s a prequel, that means Sigourney Weaver will probably not be back playing the role of Ripley. Production could start by the end of this year.

Hough Says Footloose Role Still Up In Air
Julianne Hough, of Dancing With the Stars fame, is reportedly in the running for a role in the upcoming remake of Footloose. While she says she doesn’t know exactly what’s going to happen, such a role wouldn’t be much of a stretch for her.
