061209: Opening This Weekend

Two New Movies For This Weekend

lloyd-director

It’s time for the start of another new weekend! That of course means it’s also time for a new offering of movies on the big screen. During the past few weeks we’ve had a new #1 box office headline every weekend. Last weekend The Hangover narrowly bumped the animated flick Up out of the number one spot.

What will happen this weekend?

Will it be a familiar movie in the number one spot? Or, will we have something new? Only time will tell. Eddie Murphy might Imagine his way to the top of the box office. But, over the past few years, Murphy hasn’t been a big box office draw giving us nothing more than mediocre and rude and crude movies.

As for the other new movie this week, it’s the R-rated John Travolta and Denzel Washington flick The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. After taking a subway train, maybe Travolta and Washington will take the number one spot on the box office chart.

What’s New This Weekend

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 – Rated R on 3,074 screens
In this remake of the 1974 film, Denzel Washington fills the Walter Matthau role of a New York City subway dispatcher who tries to thwart a criminal who hijacks a subway train and threatens to kill passengers if he doesn’t get a $10 million ransom. John Travolta co-stars as the mastermind behind the hijacking. This is Travolta’s first big-screen appearance since the death of his son, Jett, in January. James Gandolfini also appears.
