New In Theaters
A new weekend is here…
And that means it’s time for some new movies!
One new flick got a jump on the weekend with a Wednesday opening. With that in mind, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is sure to be the big box office winner this weekend. It pulled in approximately $61 million in its first day of release alone. Which, by the way, is an opening-day record for a Wednesday opening. The previous Wednesday record holder was the 2007 debut of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. That flick pulled in a Wednesday box office record of $44.2 million.
But, aside from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, there is one other movie opening this weekend too.
Also Opening This Weekend…
That’s probably the best way to describe the Warner Bros. flick opening this weekend. Not only is it opening on 2,000 fewer screens than Transformers, but it’s received little to no press either.
The Cameron Diaz drama My Sister’s Keeper opens nationwide today too. Diaz plays the mother of a young girl, Kate, who has leukemia. She attempts to save Kate’s life by having another child. Anna is a genetic match who can provide blood and organs to her sister. Unfortunately, the plan falls apart when a reluctant Anna, at the age of 11, seeks medical emancipation from her parents. My Sister’s Keeper, which is based on teh best-selling book by Jodi Picoult, also stars Abigail Breslin, Alec Baldwin and Jason Patric.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – PG-13 on 4,234 screens
