Independence Day Weekend Openings!

Mid-Week Openings For A Long Weekend

No, your eyes are not tricking you. It’s just Wednesday, but this is also the Wednesday of a long weekend. That means Hollywood likes to get a jump on the weekend with mid-week openings. One movie missing from the usual long weekend July 4th opening is the latest in the Transformers franchise. For some reason filmmakers for Revenge of the Fallen decided to get a jump one week early with a mid-week opening last week!

Maybe they just didn’t want the competition so those connected with the new Transformers flick decided to hit the big screen all by themselves. That means this week we’ll see if Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is all that it’s cracked up to be.

Will it continue to dominate the box office?

Time will tell as the robot-flick finds itself warring for the top spot with some animated animals and old time gangsters.

New In Theaters for July 1, 2009

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – Rated PG on 3,993 screens
The third film in this animated series finds Sid the sloth stealing dinosaur eggs in order to start his own family, only to wind up in an underground world. Then, it’s up to his friends to rescue him. Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary and John LeGuizamo all return to lend their voices to their now famous animated characters.

Public Enemies – Rated R on 3,200 screens
Johnny Depp portrays the infamous 1930’s bank robber John Dillinger who’s being hunted down by the FBI. Christian Bale is one of the agents eager to capture Dillinger and his gang. Billy Crudup and Oscar-winning La Vie en Rose actress Marion Cotillard also star.

Enjoy the show, and have a great July 4th Weekend!
