Who’s Signed Where & Other Movie News

Jackie Chan is confirmed to play Mr. Miyagi in the remake of the 1980’s movie The Karate Kid. The retooling of the 80’s classic has a new name too. This time around it’s called Kung Fu Kid. Filming is now underway in Bejing with Jaden Smith, the son of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith who has the title role.

Natalie Portman has been cast in the movie version of the Marvel comic book Thor. Portman will play the love interest of Chris Hemsworth who will play the title role of the Norse god of Thunder. The movie has a release date of May 20, 2011.

In other comic book news — producers of the film version of the classic DC Comics character Green Lantern have announced who will play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Recieving the nod over Justin Timberlake, Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto, Ryan Reynolds will take the star lead. Reynolds is familiar with the comic book world of movies. He recently appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Green Lantern is  DC Comics superhero, while X-Men is a creation of rival comic company Marvel.

Denzel Washington will not star in the upcoming movie entitled Unstoppable. Apparently Washington did not want to lower his salary so the movie about the runaway train could cut its budget.

The movie is called The Beaver and reports out now say Mel Gibson will co-star with Jodie Foster in the flick. Gibson will play a man who’s obsessed with the beaver hand-puppet he wears. Jodie Foster will not only co-star in the flick, but she’s also the director.

Just when you thought Lindsay Lohan had disappeared off the radar, there’s news that she’s starting a production company. The company, which is called Unforgettable Productions, will create projects for both film and television.
