Going Once, Going Twice, Gone!
Michael Jackson’s White Glove
A white glove worn by Michael Jackson sold for close to $50,000 at a weekend auction. The glove that sold on Sunday was tossed to an Australian fan more than a decade ago. It sold at auction in Australia for $48,400, which was almost twice the estimated selling price. The winning bid was from Warwick Stone, a buyer for the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. He beat out five other bidders for the bejeweled glove.
Charlotte Stanes, a spokeswoman for the Melbourne auction house Bonhams and Goodman said “There was a huge amount of interest in the week leading up to the sale. But, we were still pretty surprised by the price.”
In November 1996 Michael Jackson tossed the glove to Bill Hibble, a collector of music and movie memorabilia, while in Sydney for the HIStory tour. Hibble has since died, and his mother put the glove up for auction.
