In Hollywood News
It’s a mid-week Wednesday and as I look at my desk I have quite the collection of Hollywood news tidbits. Little pieces of news I’ve gathered along the way during the past couple weeks. Stories that are interesting, but stories not long enough for a post dedicated just to them.
With that in mind, here’s some Hollywood news to clear off my desk which appear in this post.
- Mickey Rourke Winner At GQ Men of Year Awards
- Daniel Craig Can’t Get Enough Security
- Russell Crowe Challenges Newspaper Writer To Bike Ride
GQ Man Of The Year
Mickey Rourke Winner of GQ Award
Mickey Rourke is a man of the people. The Oscar-nominated star of The Wrestler was named international man of the year at GQ magazine’s Men of the Year awards in London. Other honorees at the awards show included – Hell’s Kitchen host Gordon Ramsay, who claimed the entrepreneur of the year prize; Frost/Nixon star Michael Sheen who won the best actor award. British pop star Lily Allen was named woman of the year. Slumdog Millionaire actress Freida Pinto, Eva Mendes and Yoko Ono were among other celebrities in attendance.
Daniel Craig And Security
Daniel Craig is making his safety his top priority!
According to the New York Post, the James Bond actor has ordered security to accompany him around the clock while he stars in teh Broadway show A Steady Rain. Craig’s co-star in the play, Hugh Jackman, has not requested any bodyguards.
In the show, which opens on September 29th, the pair portray police officers whose friendship is on the line. An insider with the production said – “Everybody thinks it’s funny because the truth is, Daniel rarely gets approached by the public in the street and at restaurants, especially now that he has a huge handlebar moustache for his role in the play.”
Russell Crowe Challenges Writer To Bike Ride
Russell Crowe, the Oscar winning actor, challenged the gossip columnist from The Daily Telegraph in Sydney, Australia to a grueling bike ride this week. Crowe was not happy when the columnist snapped a picture of him enjoying tacos, soda and a cigarette while he was out on a bike ride along with his trainer.
The headline of the article that upset Crowe read…
Smokes and the Fatty Foods Fitness Regime
After the article ran, Crowe’s spokesman called columnist Annette Sharp and said – “Get on your bike. Russell wants you to go riding with him. Are you ready to die?” Sharp took Crowe up on his offer and the two enjoyed a 12 mile ride around Sydney. Video shot the day of the ride shows Sharp struggling to keep up with Crowe who’s zooming around town.
In the end, Russell Crowe gave her credit for lasting the 12 mile ride. Crowe also told Sharp she was better on a bike than Moulin Rouge! director Baz Luhrmann adding – “You’re twice the man Baz is.”
