Life As A Second Banana
Demond Wilson is an American television icon, best known for his role as Lamont in the classic 1970’s sitcom Sanford and Son. In the long-running series he co-starred with comic legend Red Foxx, who played his dad, the grouchy but lovable, Fred Sanford.
After the show’s cancellation in 1977 Wilson continued on as an actor starring as divorcee Raymond Ellis in the short-lived CBS-TV comedy series Baby, I’m Back and as Oscar Madison, opposite actor Ron Glass, who co-starred as Felix Unger, in the ABC-TV sitcom The New Odd Couple, a revamped black version of the original show.
A Personal Review of The Book
Demond Wilson – Actor, Producer, Minister, Author
A few months ago, after interviewing Demond on my talk show, he called me back and ask for a review of his new book. I’m honored and privileged that he asked me to review Second Banana. The review is included on the back cover of the book.
What did I think of Second Banana…here’s an excerpt…
“Demond Wilson has taken some Bitter Sweet Memoirs and turned them into gold. Second Banana: The Bitter Sweet Memoirs of Sanford & Son is much more than just a stroll down memory lane of the role Wilson made famous…When you look closer, you will also discover the journey of a man who loves to ‘live life with spontaneity’ who was also looking for a ’cause beyond himself.'”
Second Banana: The Bitter Sweet Memoirs of Sanford & Son is a fantastic book, and one that is worth having. Here you will discover the journey of the man TV viewers know as Lamont Sanford. But, you will also discover the life of a man who’s been married since 1974, the father of six and an avid golfer. Soon he’ll be seen on the big screen in the upcoming movie Faith Ties currently in development. Demond is also the founder and CEO of Restoration House of America, a non-profit organization formed in 1995 for the rehabilitation of former prison inmates across the racial divide.

I’m so glad that some of the old TV shows from that era are back on again. I watch every night and brings back so many good memories of watching Sanford & Son with my Mom and Dad when I was a teenager. Those old shows were so much better than the garbage they put on TV nowadays.
Thanks for the great memories, Lamont…you “big dummy!” And Demond Wilson was quite a good tapdancer too!
