Opening This Weekend
If you like end-of-the-world catastrophic type movies, this is a weekend for you!
Much hype has surrounded the release of really the only movie of note for this weekend. The new John Cusack flick 2012 hits the big screen in a big way this weekend. Many have anticipated this movie because of an assumed connection with the Mayan calendar. Let me go on record as saying, this movie only touches on that theme. This is really a movie about family. Not that it’s a family-friendly movie, it’s far from that, but in the end, the main theme of what Cusack calls a classic “epic popcorn movie” is about the importance of family.
Aside from 2012 there’s only one other movie of note worth mentioning. But, that’s opening on a limited basis on approximately 800 screens.

Amanda Peet, Woody Harrelson, Oliver Platt, Thandie Newton and Danny Glover also star in this film directed by the man who also brought us Independence Day, Roland Emmerich.
Pirate Radio – Rated R on 882 screens
Inspired by a true story, rock and roll deejays in the 1960’s defy the British government by broadcasting music from a ship in the North Sea. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Bill Nighy star.
