Twilight Fades In Weekend Box Office
Blind Side Tackles New Moon
I wondered out loud when the latest in the Twilight franchise stormed out of the gate for its debut weekend. I wondered if the sub-par movie would have staying power. I predicted it would not have the staying power of other movies like The Blind Side.
What happened this weekend?
The Michael Oher story starring Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side, tackled The Twilight Saga: New Moon and bounced it out of the number one spot. Many are calling The Blind Side a surprise hit. But, this comes as no surprise to me. When we reviewed The Blind Side here we said Sandra Bullock deserves an award for her performance in this based on true story flick. Now there’s even talk of that!
But, what about new movies from the weekend…How did they do?
Quiet Debuts For New Movies
When it comes to new movie debuts for the weekend, with three of the four new movies opening on approximately 2,000 screens, which is a rather low number, they ended up with quiet debuts. The Toby MaGuire, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman drama Brothers opened in third spot collecting slightly more than $10 million. The thriller flick Armored tied for sixth place while the Robert DeNiro remake of Everybody’s Fine finishes 10th, but just barely. If it weren’t for a 6th place tie at the box office, it would have finished on the outside looking in.
