New Movies On Big Screen!

lloyd-director

One new movie and one expanding movie!

Can you say end of the year? Hollywood is banking on the Christmas season to add that extra box office dollar push for the end of the year. With that in mind, since we’re still a couple weeks away from Christmas, there’s not a whole lot coming to the big screen this weekend. Don’t get me wrong, the two movie offerings are very good, but there are only two wide release movies to mention this weekend.

One new movie is an animated expansion while the other movie looks at the turning point of South Africa as they worked to leave the division of apartheid behind.

Of course since it’s the end of the year, it’s also time for Hollywood to start force feeding moviegoers with what the so-called insiders consider the best of the best for the year. Case in point, The Lovely Bones opens in a very limited release this weekend. Hollywood hopes to garner hype for what they’re calling an Oscar contender. But, this so-called brilliant movie is only opening on 3 screens this weekend!

Don’t be fooled by the hype.

Two Big Movie Releases

Invictus – PG-13 on 2,125 screens
Clint Eastwood’s latest highly-acclaimed movie opens today. This Eastwood directed drama is based on the true story of then-South African President Nelson Mandela’s effort to bring the country together through the sport of rugby after the end of apartheid. Morgan Freeman plays Mandela who throws his full support behind his nation’s rugby team as they compete in the 1995 Rugby World Cup. Matt Damon co-stars as the captain of South Africa’s rugby team.

The Princess and the Frog – Rated G on 3,434 screens
Dreamgirls actress Anika Noni Rose voices Disney’s first African-American heroine, Tiana, a waitress in 1920’s New Orleans who kisses a frog in order for him to transform back into a prince. The plan backfires when she turns into a frog! The Princess and the Frog also features the voice of Oprah Winfrey.

The Lovely Bones – PG-13 in very limited release
Helmed by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and based on the best-selling novel by Alice Sebold, this is the story of a young murdered girl who watches her family and killer from the afterlife as they deal with her death. Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Michael Imperioli and Susan Sarandon star in what some consider a possible Oscar contender.

Enjoy the show!
