Veteran Actor Gene Barry Dies

His Hollywood acting career spanned six decades!

Gene Barry’s acting roles included leading roles in three hit TV series as well as the original War of the Worlds movie, died of unknown causes Wednesday, December 9, 2009 in a Los Angeles rest home. He was 90 years old.

Barry also starred as the gambler and lawman in the TV Western Bat Masterson. He then played a publishing mogul in the series The Name of the Game. His credits don’t end there though. Barry also starred in two separate productions of the series Burke’s Law, playing a millionaire L.A. police investigator who often showed up at crime scenes in a chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce.

As already mentioned, Barry also starred in the 1953 original film version of HG Wells’ The War of the Worlds and made a cameo appearance as a grandfather in Steven Spielberg’s 2005 remake. His resume also includes several stage productions, including originating the role of the gay nightclub owner in the Broadway debut of the musical La Cage aux Folles, for which he received a Tony nomination.
