New Movies – Weekend of Dec 18/09

Avatar – PG-13 on 3,453 screens
Titanic director James Cameron’s highly-anticipated sci-flick better rake in the big bucks this weekend. It’s the most expensive movie ever made with a reported budget of close to $400 million! The story is set 150 years in the future on the planet Pandora, where humans live vicariously through their own avatars – bodies that combine the DNA of humans and the DNA of their native blue aliens, called Na’vi – and collect a mineral that can solve the Earth’s energy crisis. A former Marine who regains the ability to walk via his avatar feels conflicted when he becomes friendly with the Na’vi, who are fiercely protective of their land and clash with the humans. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Giovanni Ribisi star.

Did You Hear About the Morgans? – PG-13 on 2,718 screens
Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant are in a marriage on the decline until they see a murder unfold and are placed in the witness protection program, forcing them to move from New York to Wyoming.
