Mid-Week Holiday Openings!
It’s Wednesday and Christmas is rapidly approaching. There are a number of new movies opening during the next few days as Hollywood wraps up what’s been a record breaking Box Office year! Today there’s one new movie and another movie expanding.
George Clooney’s Golden Globe-nominated film Up in the Air takes flight in wide release today arriving early for the holiday box office. But, Clooney has some stiff competition! Originally scheduled for a Christmas Day release, the three singing Chipmunks actually hit the big screen today.
Wednesday Christmas Week Openings
Up in the Air – Rated R on 1,895 screens
George Clooney’s character, Ryan Bingham, racks up the frequent flyer miles in his role as a corporate downsizer. Bingham fires people for a living. Just as he finds a love interest in another traveler, his boss threatens to remove him permanently from the friendly skies. Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick and Jason Bateman also star in this dramedy, helmed by Juno director Jason Reitman.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel – PG on 3,656 screens
Alvin, Simon and Theodore go to school and are introduced to another trio of singing chipmunks, The Chipettes, with whom they eventually become friendly. They all perform today’s pop hits, albeit a little more high-pitched than usual. The voice cast includes Justin Long, Jesse McCartney, Christina Applegate, Anna Faris and Amy Poehler. Jason Lee, Chuck actor Zachary Levi and David Cross appear in the flesh.
