Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel

PG for mild rude humor.
Running Time: 1 hour 28 minutes

David Seville and his chipmunks, Alvin, Simon and Theodore, are back!

No one screams “Alvin!” better than Dave and in this Squeakquel, he once again has plenty to scream about. This time around Dave ends up in the hospital in a full body cast. Of course he’s there thanks to the antics of Alvin. While Dave recuperates, Alvin, Simon and Theodore find themselves in school. It seems Dave wants them to live a normal chipmunk-kid life. That means an introduction to high school life. Aside from the usual high school bumps “different” kids find along the way, everything seems to be going okay. Sure, they really don’t want to go to school, but soon they start fitting in. At least Alvin really starts to fit in.

Then, just when everything seems to be going perfectly,
the Chipettes show up on the scene!

They’re Furry, They’re Fun & They Sing!

I’ve always loved The Chipmunks and I have to tell you Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel does not disappoint. I guess deep down I will always be a kid at heart and seeing the singing Chipmunk trio of Alvin, Simon and Theodore just makes me laugh and giggle. Of course there’s also nothing like having a Chipmunk movie just in time for Christmas too.

While I enjoyed the first chipmunk movie in 2007, I have to admit…
I like this new one even better.

While the 2007 Chipmunks movie re-established them into a new generation, it was also somewhat predictable for those of us who grew up with them. But, even after saying that, we did applaud the studio for doing a good job at producing a movie that both young and old alike could enjoy. When it comes to The Squeakquel, the writers have freshened up the storyline. Yes, it’s still Christmas time, but that’s a given when you have a Chipmunk movie.

It’s really nice to see Alvin is not still looking for his “Hula hoop”.

While that’s a trademark line from the Chipmunks Christmas song, it does not appear in this new movie. Instead we have some old songs with a new fresh chipmunk twist. The finale song is a great update high-voiced twist to an old Sly and the Family Stone song! It got my toes a tapping that’s for sure.

A Movie For Kids

While Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel is definitely aimed at the kid crowd, parents who take their kids to the movie won’t be disappointed either. Sometimes movies like this come off really hokey. While there are a few hokey moments in the movie, for the most part, it’s simply fun. Go in with the mindset that The Squeakquel is for entertainment purposes only. Then, when you look a little deeper you will also discover some cool talking points revolving around the importance of family.

All in all, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, is a fun family-friendly movie. It’s worth seeing on the big screen during the Christmas season.

Enjoy the show!
