101510: Opening This Weekend

Two Wide Release & A Test Release

There are only two movies opening in wide release this weekend. But, in a very odd move, Warner Brothers is releasing the new Clint Eastwood flick in a limited release before a wide release next week. I have no idea why they’re doing this and it does seem very odd.

One new movie opening this weekend has an all-star cast of what might be referred to as some older actors from Hollywood. Then there’s a movie that’s bad in the first place but the franchise has decided to think we need to see it in 3D! Give me a break. Then there are also two limited release movies for the weekend too.

New On The Big Screen

Red – PG-13  on 3,255 screens
A group of former CIA agents considered to be RED – as in Retired and Extremely Dangerous – become the targets of an assassination attempt organized by their ex-employer. Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Mary-Louise Parker also star.

Jackass 3D – Rated R on 3,081 screens
They’re back! (Why? I have no idea!) Johnny Knoxville and his buddies are back with more dumb stunts. Do not try this at home!

Opening in limited release:
Hereafter – PG-13 on 6 screens

This Clint Eastwood directed flick opens on more than 2,200 screens next week. But, for some reason, they’re releasing it on 6 screens this week. Matt Damon stars as a reluctant psychic who can talk to dead people. The story follows his character as well as a French journalist and a London schoolboy who’ve also been affected in some way by a death-related experience. Bryce Dallas Howard and Jay Mohr also star.

Conviction – Rated R on 11 screens
For some reason the entertainment industry is trying to create buzz for this movie. We were offered a screening in our area, but for a Rated R movie opening on just 11 screens, we took a pass. This movie is based on a true story. Hilary Swank plays a single mother who puts herself through law school to eventually get her brother freed from prison after serving 18 years for murder. Sam Rockwell, Minnie Driver and Melissa Leo also star.

Enjoy the show!
