Dumb Movie Franchise Grabs #1 Spot
The Jackass crew grabbed the number one box office spot over the weekend. Jackass 3D pulled in approximately $50 million to set a record for an October debut, breaking the old mark of $48 million set by Scary Movie 3 in 2003. However, even though it broke the 2003 record, Jackass 3D actually sold fewer tickets than Scary Movie 3 did when the horror spoof was released. Of course that means the only reason the Jackass franchise broke the record is because it benefited from the higher ticket prices that exist today, especially for 3D movies.
Next up, the action movie Red with yet another all-star cast debuted in second place while The Social Network, which had been #1 for two weekends in a row, slipped to third place in the Box Office Top Ten list. Last, but certainly not least, the Clint Eastwood movie Hereafter did quite well in a very limited release raising $231,000 in just six theaters! Hereafter, starring Matt Damon, opens in wide release this weekend.
