Something Worth Seeing This Weekend?

After a number of lack-luster movie weekends, maybe this weekend finally has something of interest in the offering. Overall there are three new wide release movies set to hit the big screen. Two R rated flicks along with a PG animated movie starring Will Ferrell. As many of you know who read Frame by Frame on a regular basis, we are not fans of Will Ferrell – unless that is – he’s appearing as a cartoon. Apparently the only way to reign in the off-color humor of a for the most part humorless man, is to make him a cartoon.

Another movie worth noting is the new Robert Downey Jr flick. While it looks somewhat reminiscent of the classic Planes, Trains and Automobiles this movie looks like it has potential for being somewhat funny. Off course keep in mind it is R rated which means it will not be family-friendly.

New On The Big Screen

Megamind – PG on 3,944 screens
Will Ferrell voices a bad guy who trumps his longtime arch rival, Metro Man, only to have another villain come to town and interfere with his diabolical plans, forcing Megamind to become the hero. Brad Pitt, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill and David Cross also lend their voices to this animated flim.

Due Date – Rated R on 3,355 screens
Robert Downey Jr. is an expectant father who has to hitch a ride with a kooky character, played by Zach Galifianakis, on a cross-country trip to be with his wife when she gives birth. Jamie Foxx and Michelle Monaghan also star in this comedy.

For Colored Girls – Rated R on 2,127 screens
Tyler Perry directs this adaptation of the award-winning play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf. The play is a poetic story of black women’s struggles in America. Janet Jackson, Thandie Newton, Whoopi Goldberg adn Phylicia Rashad star.
