091911: Weekend Box Office Results

An Old Movie Grabs Number One Box Office Spot

A movie that’s close to 20 years old roared to the top of the box office over the weekend. The 3D re-release of Disney’s classic animated movie The Lion King picked up slightly more than $29 million. Just in case you’re wondering, the original version of The Lion King debuted at the number one spot in 1994 raising over $40 million. Contagion slipped to second place.

The weekend’s other new releases brought pretty much yawns all around. Drive landed in the third spot with Straw Dogs opening in fifth place. The new Sarah Jessica Parker comedy I Don’t Know How She Does It landed in sixth place pulling in just under $5 million.
